FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

Who is eligible for the Youth Entrepreneurship Academy?
Students enrolled in grades 7-12 are eligible for the Youth Entrepreneurship Academy.
How do I enroll my child in the Youth Entrepreneurship Academy?
Please call Margaret DePena at Visions of Truth Community Development Corporation, (757)967-9664 for enrollment information.
My child dropped out of school. Is she still eligible for the program?
Although YEA encourages students to complete their education beyond high school, students who have dropped out of school are encouraged to obtain their GED through the local Adult Education program once they've enrolled in our program.
Does my child have to have a certain grade point average to participate in the Youth Entrepreneurship Academy?
Students must have a desire to learn and study. As long as they observe the strict conduct guidelines of the Youth Entrepreneurship Academy, all students enrolled in Portsmouth Public Schools, grades 7-12 are eligible to participate.
How is the Youth Entrepreneurship Academy different from regular school?
In addition to academic skills, students are exposed to real-life learning skills. Students receive instructions that enable them to transfer and apply academic skills, such as math to real life business skills such as bookkeeping, ordering supplies and tax implications for business.
If my child attends public school, can he still participate in the Youth Entrepreneurship Academy?
Yes. The Youth Entrepreneurship Academy holds classes during the day as well as the evening. So your child may attend public school during the day, then come to the Youth Entrepreneurship Academy to acquire workplace and life skills during evening hours.
How much does it cost to enroll my child in the Youth Entrepreneurship Academy?
Classes are free and open to all Portsmouth Public School students, grades 7-12. As a nonprofit organization, Visions of Truth Community Development Corporation always welcomes donations, but there is no enrollment fee.
